We are the Dobsons. We are a British family from the North East of England. We love to travel and can’t wait to get back to it as soon as the current global situation allows it. We maintain a quirky little home that you can check out on our Instagram and are holiday obsessed with the likes of Easter, Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas!
We were childhood sweet hearts, having met in New York City in February 2010 when I was 16 and Jess, 15, and the rest is history. We married and had our first child in 2020, which is where I begin my blog. For more details on our wedding and our history, please see my wife’s blog, Steady Your Boat.
This is me, the author of the blog. I am a telecommunications engineer, meaning if your phone or internet stops working or is under-performing, I’m one of the people you would call. I have a degree in Aerospace Engineering, and my interests include computer programming and playing musical instruments. I used to play bass in a ska band, but I can also play guitar and occasionally try my hand at saxophone and piano.
This is my wife Jessica, when she was growing our daughter. She also has her own blog covering all aspects of life, including travel, lifestyle, religion and upcycling so please be sure to check it out. Jess maintains our growing home Instagram account, and keeps the home looking Instagram worthy, and I must say she does a cracking job! She has also provided all of the artwork and photos for this blog, so I’ve got her to thank for that too! Previously, Jess was a teaching assistant, working especially with children with Special Educational Needs. One of the most under appreciated jobs in existence in my opinion! Jess is incredible, the love of my life and I am incredibly proud of her!

Meet Matilda Noelle Dobson, the one who this is all about. The name isn’t double barrelled or anything but we love her name so much that we can’t help but say it! Matilda is a German name, meaning strength in battle. Well she got us through 2020! Need I say more? We liked Matilda because it’s a name we hadn’t heard that often, and after Jess had worked in a school, all of the naughty names were off the list! Matilda was also the name of our case worker who made our wedding happen when it nearly didn’t! Read all about that fiasco here.
And we picked Noelle, meaning Christmas, simply due to when she was born. She has already changed our life so much.
And finally, we have the family pet. Nala is supposedly a dwarf lop-eared rabbit, but we don’t believe the dwarf part as sometimes she’s huge! Call me biased, but she’s adorable! And yes, she has an Instagram, you can check that out here.
We used to have Timon and Pumbaa, both rabbits. We lost Pumbaa quite young, but a few years later, when we finally lived together, we got Nala to be a new companion for Timon. Unfortunately, he didn’t make it either, and soon after, we only had Nala.
Luckily, Nala quite enjoys her own company, so there aren’t any plans for any new companions just yet. Especially since she now has a baby to play with… I’m sure she will love that…
